FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Do different oils contain different EFAs?
Yes, some oils are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and others contain a greater amount of Omega-6 fatty acids. Some oils are very balanced and contain a significant amount of both Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids.

Omega-3 Oils
Black Currant/ Echium/Flaxseed/Hempseed/Perilla/Shikonin/Walnut
These oils are rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which is the precursor fatty acid for the omega-3 series, but they also contain useful amounts of the omega-6 precursor linoleic acid (LA)."

Omega-6 Oils
Apricot Kernal/Black Currant/Borage/Evening Primrose/Flaxseed/Echium/Hempseed/Perilla/Pumpkin/Shikonin/Walnut Omega-6 oils contain both Linoleic Acid (LA n-6, C18:2) and Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA n-6, C:18:3). LA is converted in the body to GLA under good physiological conditions and if the diet is balanced. The GLA rich oils are somewhat rare in nature and provide the GLA that the body requires for good health. These GLA rich oils are black currant, borage, echium, evening primrose, and shikonin oil.

Omega-6/Omega-3 Combination Oils
black currant, echium, and shikonin Several of these oils offer the combined benefit of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids present in a single oil. These oils are black currant, echium, and shikonin. Black currant and shikonin also are good sources of stearidonic acid, n-3, C18:4. Stearidonic acid is one step further on the biochemical chain in the body of the metabolism of omega-3 fats. Consuming stearidonic acid in the body may conserve enzymes used for conversion of both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
